BOULDER, Colo. (Interstat) — Two surging teams with identical records will meet Sunday when the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks visit the Colorado Buffaloes in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup at the Coors Events Center. Both squads enter the 12:30 p.m. MST tipoff at 7-3 overall, each having won their last two contests. The game represents a final tune-up for both before a stretch of challenging upcoming schedules. Miami (Ohio) arrives riding high after a dominant 80-53 victory over Western Kentucky on Dec. 7, where its offense clicked efficiently. The Redhawks have shown resilience, including a 75-71 overtime road win at Cincinnati on Dec. 3. Their success has been fueled by guard Amber Tretter, who is coming off a 20-point performance against Western Kentucky and a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double in the win at Cincinnati. Over her last six games, Tretter has averaged 14.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. The Buffaloes counter with their own momentum, having held opponents under 50 points in consecutive wins over College of Charleston (66-47) and Wyoming (58-46). Colorado’s defense has been a staple, though consistency on offense has been a focus. Forward Anaëlle Dutat provides a versatile presence for Colorado. She posted 14 points and three assists against College of Charleston and followed with seven points and six rebounds against Wyoming. Her season highlights include a 17-point outing against Boise State and a 10-rebound performance against Portland State. This marks the first meeting between the programs in recent history. For Miami, it is the final nonconference road test before Mid-American Conference play begins later this month. Colorado, a member of the Big 12, opens its conference slate on the road at Baylor on Jan. 8. The matchup pits Miami’s productive backcourt, led by Tretter and Tamar Singer (who dished 12 assists against Western Kentucky), against Colorado’s formidable frontcourt and defensive structure. The Buffaloes will look to leverage their home-court advantage, where they are 6-1 this season, with the only loss a one-point setback to Montana State. The Redhawks are 3-2 in true road games. Whichever team can impose its style—Miami’s guard-driven attack or Colorado’s defensive physicality—will gain a key quality win before the heart of the season.
