INDIANAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Butler Bulldogs will look to build on a dominant offensive performance when they host the struggling Eastern Illinois Panthers in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Butler (5-6) is coming off a 101-56 rout of Indiana State on Thursday, a game in which it shot 56% from the field and had five players score in double figures. The Bulldogs’ season has been marked by inconsistency, however, with the win preceded by double-digit losses to Marquette and Seton Hall. A key player for the Bulldogs is Mallory Miller, who provides a defensive presence and efficient scoring. In the win over Indiana State, Miller scored 16 points and blocked four shots in just 19 minutes. Over her last five games, she has averaged 9.4 points and 2.2 blocks. Eastern Illinois (1-8) seeks to halt a two-game skid after falling 64-46 at Illinois State on Dec. 7. The Panthers’ lone win this season came at Bellarmine, 68-63, on Nov. 29. They have struggled offensively, failing to reach 70 points in any game and averaging just 56.2 points per contest. The Panthers will lean on guard Ava Stoller, their most consistent offensive threat. Stoller is coming off a 16-point effort against Illinois State and scored 21 in the victory over Bellarmine. She averages a team-leading 11.8 points and 3.6 assists per game. Butler holds a distinct advantage in experience at Hinkle Fieldhouse, while Eastern Illinois continues a grueling road stretch; this game is its eighth true road contest of the season. The Panthers are 0-7 away from home. Following this matchup, Butler opens Big East play at home against Xavier on Dec. 19. Eastern Illinois returns home to face SIU Edwardsville on Dec. 18. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST Sunday.
