Preview: Kentucky Visits Belmont in Non-Conference Finale NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The surging Kentucky women’s basketball team concludes its non-conference schedule Sunday against Belmont at Curb Events Center. The Wildcats (10-1) have won three straight since their only loss at Maryland, including an 82-55 rout of Central Michigan last Sunday. Kentucky’s defense has been stifling, holding eight opponents under 50 points. Kentucky is led by guard Tonie Morgan, who is averaging 14.5 points and 7.5 assists. She recorded a triple-double (12 points, 11 assists) against Central Michigan and has dished at least seven assists in five games this season. Forward Clara Strack (14 points) and transfer Teonni Key (17 points) were also pivotal in the win. The Belmont Bruins (4-5) look to rebound from a 70-58 home loss to Princeton. Guard Tuti Jones leads the team, averaging 12.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Forward Hilary Fuller, who scored 17 points against Princeton, provides an interior presence. This matchup pits Kentucky’s elite defense, allowing just 50.5 points per game, against a Belmont squad averaging 68.2 points. The Bruins have faced a tough schedule, with losses to ranked Ohio State and Oklahoma. Kentucky holds a distinct size advantage, with 6-foot-5 Strack and 6-4 Key anchoring the paint. Containing Morgan’s playmaking will be a primary challenge for Belmont’s backcourt, spearheaded by Jones. For Kentucky, this is a final tune-up before Southeastern Conference play begins Jan. 1 at LSU. Belmont opens Missouri Valley Conference action Jan. 2. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST Sunday. Kentucky leads the all-time series 3-0, with the last meeting a 70-50 Wildcats victory in 2019.
