TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Interstat) — An undefeated Alabama women’s basketball team looks to continue its dominant start when it hosts a struggling Jackson State squad on Sunday, Dec. 14, at Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide (10-0) enter on a wave of momentum, having won each of their first 10 games by an average margin of 26.2 points. Their most recent victory was a 75-38 rout of Louisiana-Monroe on Dec. 7. Alabama’s offense is powered by guard Jessica Timmons, who has scored in double figures in every game this season. Timmons is averaging 18.4 points per game over her last five contests, including a 25-point performance against Harvard on Nov. 24. Jackson State (2-6), conversely, seeks to correct course after losing four of its last five. The Lady Tigers are coming off a 77-46 road loss at Arkansas on Dec. 7, where they shot just 27.9% from the field. Forward Mikayla Brown will be a key for the Lady Tigers; she has recorded two double-doubles this season and is averaging 9.4 points and 7.4 rebounds over her last five games. Rhema Pegues, who led Jackson State with 15 points in the loss to Arkansas, provides additional scoring. The matchup presents a stark contrast in trajectories. Alabama’s defense has been stifling, holding opponents to 52.6 points per game. Jackson State’s offense has averaged only 63.1 points and will face its toughest defensive test to date. The Lady Tigers have yet to win a road game this season (0-4). For Alabama, this game serves as a final tune-up before a daunting stretch of Southeastern Conference play that begins Jan. 1 at South Carolina. Jackson State continues a challenging non-conference slate before opening Southwestern Athletic Conference action on Jan. 3. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CST.
