MADISON, Wis. (Interstat) β€” The Wisconsin Badgers, riding the momentum of a strong start, will host the San Diego Toreros in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup Wednesday afternoon at Kohl Center. Wisconsin (7-3) enters having won five of its last six games, most recently a 78-64 victory over Michigan State on Sunday. The Badgers have been led by the dynamic play of guard Ronnie Porter, who is coming off a 12-point, 8-assist performance. Porter has been a consistent facilitator, averaging 5.6 assists over her last five contests. San Diego (4-6) snapped a two-game skid with a 70-66 home win over Utah State on Sunday. The Toreros are powered by guard Olivia Owens, who erupted for 25 points in that victory. Owens has shown high-scoring capability, averaging 17 points over her last three games, but San Diego has struggled on the road, losing all three away contests this season by an average of 24 points. The Badgers have found success with a balanced attack. Alongside Porter, forward Gift Uchenna provides a major interior presence, blocking seven shots against Michigan State, while guard Kyrah Daniels adds perimeter scoring. For San Diego, consistency beyond Owens is key. Guards Lilly Amor and Ayla Williams, who combined for 23 points Sunday, will need to provide supplemental offense against a Wisconsin defense allowing just 66.1 points per game. This game begins a challenging two-game road swing for the Toreros before returning home. Wisconsin, meanwhile, continues to build its resume before opening Big Ten Conference play at Maryland on Dec. 29. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday.
