Preview: Boise State Broncos at Utah Utes - Women’s Basketball SALT LAKE CITY (Interstat) — A surging Boise State squad aims to continue its strong start to the season when it visits the Utah Utes in a nonconference women’s basketball game Wednesday night at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The Broncos (8-1) bring a seven-game winning streak to Salt Lake City, their lone loss coming on the road against then-Colorado on Nov. 18. They are coming off a tight 82-80 home victory over California Baptist last Saturday, powered by 20 points from guard Dani Bayes. Bayes has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 18.1 points over her last seven contests, including a 31-point performance against UC Davis on Nov. 14. Utah (6-3) has won three straight, most recently a 70-58 road win at Colorado State last Thursday. In that game, forward Avery Hjelmstad broke out for a season-high 22 points. The Utes’ three losses have come against ranked or power-conference opponents: Colorado State, Syracuse and top-ranked Connecticut. The matchup features contrasting strengths. Boise State has showcased a high-powered offense, scoring 80 or more points in four games this season. Utah has relied more on its defense during its win streak, holding its last three opponents to an average of 49.3 points. Boise State’s balanced attack includes Tatum Thompson (18 points vs. California Baptist) and Natalie Pasco (15 points vs. California Baptist) alongside Bayes. Utah counters with Hjelmstad’s interior presence and guard Lani Sneed, who dished six assists against Colorado State. This game serves as a final tune-up before both teams enter extended holiday breaks. Boise State begins Mountain West Conference play at New Mexico on Dec. 17. Utah opens its Big 12 Conference schedule at home against Arizona State on Dec. 31. Wednesday’s tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST at the Huntsman Center.
