LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — A pair of 8-win Cardinals will clash Wednesday when the Ball State women’s basketball team visits Louisville in a nonconference matchup at KFC Yum! Center. Ball State (8-2) arrives looking to rebound from its most lopsided defeat of the season, an 87-65 loss at Davidson on Sunday. Louisville (8-3) enters off a dominant 94-43 home victory over New Hampshire that same day. The game features a compelling individual matchup between standout forwards. Ball State’s Bree Salenbien has been a dynamic force, averaging 18.1 points per game. She is coming off a 21-point effort in the loss to Davidson and has recorded two double-doubles this season, including a 17-point, 12-rebound performance against Pittsburgh on Nov. 28. Louisville counters with Skylar Jones, who is averaging 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds. Jones scored 15 points with seven rebounds in just 18 minutes against New Hampshire and had a season-high 21 points in a win over Colorado on Nov. 12. Ball State’s two losses have come on the road, at Davidson and at home to Illinois-Chicago. The team’s defense has been a strength, holding six opponents under 65 points. Louisville’s three losses have come against ranked opponents or power-conference foes: then-South Carolina (79-77), Kentucky (72-62) and UConn (79-66). This marks the first meeting between the programs. For Ball State, it is a final major nonconference test before Mid-American Conference play begins later this month. For Louisville, it is a tune-up before a challenging stretch of Atlantic Coast Conference games. Wednesday’s contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. EST tipoff. Following this game, Ball State will travel to face South Dakota State on Sunday. Louisville will begin a road swing at North Carolina, also on Sunday.
