Texas Looks to Extend Perfect Start at UTRGV EDINBURG, Texas (Interstat) — The fifth-ranked Texas women’s basketball team puts its unblemished record on the line Wednesday night when it visits the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley at UT Pan Am Field House. The Longhorns (10-0), coming off a 101-42 rout of Prairie View A&M on Sunday, have dominated their early schedule. Their resume includes ranked wins over then-UCLA (76-65) and a dramatic 66-64 road victory at then-South Carolina on Nov. 27. Texas showcases a balanced attack, but forward Breya Cunningham is emerging as a dominant force. She is coming off a career-high 30-point performance in just 28 minutes against Prairie View. Over her last five games, Cunningham is averaging 12.8 points. UTRGV (3-4) seeks a program-defining upset on its home floor. The Vaqueros have played competitively against in-state foes, falling just short against Houston (65-63) on Nov. 20 and defeating Texas State (77-65) on the road three days prior. The Vaqueros are led by guard Jalayah Ingram, who has scored in double figures in every game this season. She averages 19.3 points per contest and is coming off a 17-point, 5-assist effort in a 67-59 loss at Lamar on Dec. 2. This marks the first meeting between the programs since 2019. Texas has won all four previous matchups by an average of 51 points. The Longhorns’ high-pressure defense, which forces over 22 turnovers per game, will challenge a UTRGV squad averaging 16.4 giveaways. Texas also holds a commanding +24.8 average rebounding margin. Following this contest, Texas prepares for a marquee neutral-site showdown with Baylor on Dec. 14 in Fort Worth. UTRGV begins a three-game road trip at Stephen F. Austin on Dec. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
