STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Interstat) — A surging Saint John’s squad visits a struggling Stony Brook team in a non-conference women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. The Red Storm (8-2) enter on a strong run, having won seven of their last eight games. They are coming off a 62-55 home victory over Providence on Sunday. Guard Brooke Moore led the way with 16 points and has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 17.1 points over her last seven contests. Shaulana Wagner added 12 points and five assists in the win. Saint John’s’ only two losses this season came against ranked opponents Creighton and a narrow season-opening defeat at Harvard. Their resume includes a notable 77-75 road win at Georgia Tech on Nov. 28, a game in which Moore scored 25 points. The host Seawolves (3-7) have faced a difficult early schedule and look to halt a two-game skid. They are reeling from a 67-33 road loss to Harvard last Friday, where they shot just 23.2% from the field. Forward Caitlin Frost, a key player for Stony Brook, managed nine points and seven rebounds in that contest. Frost has been a rebounding presence, recording double-doubles against Georgia State and Central Arkansas last month. Stony Brook’s victories have come against Molloy, Rutgers and New Jersey City. They have struggled offensively against higher-caliber competition, failing to reach 55 points in five of their seven losses. The game represents a final tune-up for both teams before extended holiday breaks. Saint John’s will look to maintain its momentum before hosting Hofstra on Saturday.
