AMES, Iowa (Interstat) — An early-season clash of unbeatens will highlight the women’s college basketball schedule Wednesday night when Iowa State hosts in-state rival Iowa at Hilton Coliseum. Both teams enter the 2025 Cy-Hawk showdown with perfect records. The visiting Hawkeyes are 9-0, while the second-ranked Cyclones sit at 10-0. The matchup features two of the nation’s most potent offenses, with Iowa averaging 82.2 points per game and Iowa State pouring in a staggering 95.2 points per contest. A marquee individual battle will take place in the post, where Iowa’s Ava Heiden and Iowa State’s Audi Crooks are playing at an All-American level. Heiden, a versatile forward, is coming off a 17-point, 5-assist, 3-block performance in a 79-36 rout of Rutgers on Dec. 6. Over her last five games, she is averaging 18.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.2 blocks. Crooks, the Cyclones’ dominant center, has been virtually unstoppable. She dropped 30 points in just 19 minutes in a 105-52 win over Northern Illinois on Dec. 7. In a 106-95 road win at Indiana on Nov. 30, Crooks exploded for 47 points. She is shooting over 70% from the field this season. Iowa has navigated a tougher early schedule, with key road wins at Baylor and Northern Iowa. The Hawkeyes’ defense, allowing just 55.7 points per game, will face its ultimate test against the Cyclones’ high-powered attack. Iowa State, meanwhile, has won every game by at least 25 points except for its victories over Indiana and Marquette. The sold-out environment at Hilton Coliseum is expected to be raucous for the 7 p.m. CST tipoff. Iowa holds a 31-29 lead in the all-time series, but the Cyclones have won the last two meetings on their home floor. The winner will claim state bragging rights and a coveted resume-boosting nonconference victory as both teams prepare for their respective conference slates. Iowa opens Big Ten play on Dec. 28 against Penn State, while Iowa State begins Big 12 competition on Jan. 4 against Baylor.
