CONWAY, S.C. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum before conference play begins will meet Wednesday when the UNC Greensboro Spartans visit the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup at the HTC Center. Both teams enter with 5-5 records, though their recent paths have diverged. The Spartans (5-4) have won four of their last five, including a dominant 70-39 road victory at South Carolina Upstate on Saturday. The Chanticleers (5-5), meanwhile, look to rebound from a 51-68 loss at Jacksonville that same day, which snapped a three-game winning streak. A key matchup will feature two standout forwards. UNC Greensboro’s Rylan Moffitt has been a consistent force, averaging a near double-double over her last three games. She posted 14 points and two blocks against Upstate and recorded a 10-rebound, three-block performance in a win at North Carolina Central on Nov. 26. Coastal Carolina will counter with Tessa Grady, a dynamic scorer capable of big nights. Grady poured in 23 points in a season-opening win at UNC Wilmington and scored 22 in a narrow loss at North Carolina State. She led the Chanticleers with 14 points in the loss to Jacksonville. The Spartans have relied on a stout defense during their recent surge, holding three of their last five opponents under 53 points. Coastal Carolina’s offense has been explosive at home, averaging 102 points per game during its recent three-game homestand, but struggled on the road last time out. This game represents a final tune-up before both teams dive into their respective conference schedules in January. UNC Greensboro begins Southern Conference play on Jan. 8, while Coastal Carolina opens Sun Belt Conference action on Jan. 7. Tip-off is set for Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the HTC Center in Conway.
