(Interstat) — The Winthrop Eagles look to continue their winning momentum when they host the UNC Wilmington Seahawks in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday at Winthrop Coliseum. Winthrop (6-4) enters on a two-game win streak, including a dominant 105-41 victory over JWU Charlotte on Wednesday. The Eagles’ offense has been potent, averaging 75.8 points in their six wins. Guard Amourie Porter has been a catalyst, averaging 12.7 points and 4.1 assists per game. She is coming off a 14-point, 7-assist performance against JWU Charlotte. UNC Wilmington (3-4) seeks to rebound from a 63-83 road loss at West Georgia on Wednesday. The Seahawks have shown resilience, with two of their three wins coming at home, but are 1-3 in away games. Forward Angelina Pelayo will be a key factor; she posted 12 points and eight rebounds in the loss to West Georgia. The Eagles have faced a tougher schedule, with losses to power conference opponents South Carolina and Marquette, but also own a decisive win over a common foe, Queens (N.C.). Winthrop defeated Queens 75-69 on Nov. 15, while UNC Wilmington beat them 69-59 on Nov. 30. This matchup begins a challenging stretch for both teams. Following Sunday’s game, Winthrop faces a daunting three-game road trip at Tennessee, Charlotte and Virginia. UNC Wilmington’s next outing is at North Carolina on Dec. 17.
