The Demon Deacons (9-1) saw a nine-game winning streak snapped in a 67-64 home upset by William & Mary on Wednesday. Wake Forest, which has relied on a balanced attack, will look to sophomore guard Caitlyn Jones to regain momentum. Jones scored a team-high 14 points with four assists in the loss and has averaged 12.3 points over her last four games. Georgetown (5-3) arrives after a 76-69 home loss to Villanova on Thursday, snapping a three-game win streak. The Hoyas’ offense, which averaged 86 points during that streak, was stifled by the Wildcats. Guard Summer Davis, a key contributor off the bench, will be a player to watch. The sophomore has scored in double figures in five of her last six games, including 12 points against Villanova. The matchup pits Georgetown’s high-scoring offense against a Wake Forest defense that had held opponents to an average of 54.2 points prior to the William & Mary game. The Hoyas have topped 90 points three times this season but are 0-3 when scoring 69 or fewer. For Wake Forest, frontcourt players Mary Carter (15 points, 7 rebounds vs. William & Mary) and Grace Oliver (13 points, 6 rebounds) provide interior stability. Georgetown counters with guard Laila Jewett, who leads the team in scoring at 12.4 points per game. This nonconference game serves as a final tune-up before both teams dive into league play later this month. Georgetown opens Big East action Dec. 21, while Wake Forest begins Atlantic Coast Conference play Dec. 14. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon.
