Preview: Duke Women Set for ACC Test at Virginia Tech BLACKSBURG, Va. (Interstat) — The Duke women’s basketball team looks to halt a four-game skid when it visits Virginia Tech in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup Sunday at Cassell Coliseum. The Blue Devils (3-6) are coming off a 93-77 home loss to LSU on Thursday. Duke has struggled against a difficult nonconference schedule, with all six losses coming against power-conference opponents or South Florida. Virginia Tech (7-2), ranked 22nd, has won two straight, including a 68-64 victory over Florida last Thursday. The Hokies’ only setbacks are a four-point loss to BYU and a road defeat at James Madison. Duke will lean on guard Taina Mair, who is averaging 12.3 points and 5.6 assists per game. She scored 14 points with seven assists against LSU. Ashlon Jackson, who had 16 points in that loss, provides additional backcourt scoring. The Hokies counter with forward Carys Baker, their leading scorer at 15.3 points per game. Baker is coming off a 23-point performance against Florida and has scored 20 or more points in three games this season. Virginia Tech has dominated at home, winning by an average of 28.3 points in its four games at Cassell Coliseum this season. Duke is 1-4 in true road games. This contest opens ACC play for both teams. Duke’s next game is Dec. 18 against South Dakota State. Virginia Tech hosts Presbyterian on Wednesday before its next conference test at Florida State on Dec. 18. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST Sunday.
