LSU Tigers Look to Extend Dominant Start Against Struggling New Orleans Privateers NEW ORLEANS (Interstat) — The undefeated and eighth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team travels a short distance to face the struggling University of New Orleans on Sunday at Kiefer Lakefront Arena, a matchup featuring two programs at opposite ends of the competitive spectrum. The Tigers (8-0), under coach Kim Mulkey, have been a powerhouse, winning every game by an average margin of 52.6 points. They are coming off a 93-77 road victory over then-Duke on Thursday, a statement win that showcased their national championship pedigree. LSU’s high-octane offense has scored at least 101 points in five of its eight games. A player to watch for LSU is guard Mikaylah Williams, who is averaging 15.1 points per game. She is coming off a strong all-around performance at Duke with 14 points and seven assists in 35 minutes. Flau’jae Johnson (18 points) and MiLaysia Fulwiley (16 points) also provided significant scoring in that win. The New Orleans Privateers (0-7), under first-year coach Keeshawn Davenport, are still seeking their first victory. They have faced a challenging non-conference slate, with their most recent outing a 90-58 loss at South Florida on Nov. 30. The Privateers have lost by an average of 22.7 points per game. Guard Sharon Smith is a bright spot for New Orleans, coming off a season-high 19-point effort in 29 minutes against South Florida. Aaliyah Ellis and Lauren Banks each added 11 points in that contest. This game represents a monumental challenge for the Privateers against an LSU squad that leads the nation in scoring offense and scoring margin. The Tigers’ depth and athleticism have overwhelmed every opponent so far this season. For LSU, this is the final tune-up before a highly anticipated rematch of last season’s national championship game against Texas, scheduled for Jan. 11 in Baton Rouge. The Tigers will host Morgan State on Dec. 16 following this contest. New Orleans opens Southland Conference play on Jan. 3 against Texas A&M-Commerce. They will visit crosstown rival Tulane on Dec. 14. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. CST Sunday.
