VILLANOVA, Pa. (Interstat) — A pair of Philadelphia-area women’s basketball teams seeking consistency will meet Sunday when the Drexel Dragons face the Temple Owls in a Philadelphia Big 5 contest. The nonconference matchup features Drexel (5-3) and Temple (4-4), both looking to build momentum before entering their respective league schedules. The game will be played at Villanova, Pennsylvania. The Dragons enter following a 55-48 home win over American on Wednesday. Amaris Baker led the way with 20 points, while freshman Molly Rullo added 11 points in 31 minutes. Rullo, a player to watch for Drexel, has shown flashes of scoring ability, including her 11-point performance last outing, but her playing time has fluctuated in her first collegiate games. Temple arrives off its most impressive performance of the season, an 84-64 road victory at Western Carolina last Sunday. Guard Kaylah Turner powered the Owls with 23 points, five rebounds and four assists. Turner, Temple’s standout scorer, has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 17.1 points per game and scoring 20 or more points in three contests this season. Both teams have experienced similar struggles, particularly on the road. Drexel’s three losses have come away from home, while Temple’s four defeats include road losses to power conference opponents Michigan State and West Virginia, as well as a 30-point setback at Villanova. The Owls will aim to leverage their high-scoring offense, which erupted for 84 points last week, against a Drexel defense that has held three opponents under 60 points this season. The Dragons will need to contain Turner and find a steady offensive rhythm beyond Baker to secure a road victory. This game is the final Big 5 outing for both programs this season. Drexel’s next game is at home against Chestnut Hill on Dec. 16. Temple will host VCU on Dec. 13.
