JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Interstat) â Two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference womenâs basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Sunday when the Monmouth Hawks visit the Saint Peterâs Peacocks at Yanitelli Center. Monmouth (3-4) enters off a 77-68 home win over NJIT on Wednesday, while Saint Peterâs (1-6) looks to rebound from a 65-43 loss to Army the same day. The non-conference matchup offers both squads a final tune-up before their holiday breaks and the bulk of their league schedules. The Hawks have been led by the strong recent play of Divine Dibula. The guard/forward is coming off a dominant performance against NJIT, scoring 21 points and grabbing nine rebounds in 29 minutes. Over her last three games, Dibula is averaging 16.7 points and 7.0 rebounds, providing a consistent offensive spark for Monmouth. She will be a primary focus for the Peacocksâ defense. Saint Peterâs will counter with its own standout in guard DeâNaya Rippey. The teamâs leading scorer has been a bright spot during a difficult start, averaging a double-double of 11.7 points and 10.3 rebounds over her last three contests. Her ability to impact the game on both ends will be crucial for the Peacocks, who have struggled offensively, failing to reach 60 points in five of their seven games. The Hawksâ offense, which exploded for 77 points midweek, will test a Saint Peterâs defense that has allowed an average of 69.4 points per game. Monmouthâs backcourt, featuring Alexis Andrews and Maria Amaro, who combined for 22 points and nine assists against NJIT, will look to control the tempo. For Saint Peterâs, finding supplementary scoring behind Rippey is imperative. Layla Laws and Eszter Turi provided contributions on the boards in the loss to Army and will need to convert more opportunities inside. Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon. Monmouth travels to face Yale on Dec. 18 in its next outing, while Saint Peterâs hosts Fairleigh Dickinson on Dec. 10.
