Preview: Syracuse Orange at SMU Mustangs ABILENE, Texas (Interstat) — The surging Syracuse women’s basketball team, off to its best start in years, will face an SMU squad seeking consistency when they meet in a nonconference matchup Sunday at Moody Coliseum. The Orange (7-1) arrive in West Texas riding a four-game win streak, most recently a 66-60 overtime victory over Auburn on Wednesday. Syracuse’s lone loss came on the road against then-Michigan. Syracuse is anchored by forward Izoje Uche, a dominant force on both ends of the floor. Over her last four games, Uche is averaging 14 points, 6.5 rebounds and four blocks. She recorded a triple-double (10 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists) in the loss to Michigan and followed with a 20-point, nine-rebound, seven-block performance against Howard. Guard Dominique Darius, who scored 20 against Auburn, provides backcourt scoring punch. The Mustangs (4-5) have shown flashes, winning three of their last four after a 1-4 start. They are coming off an impressive 78-63 win over Arkansas on Thursday. SMU’s success hinges heavily on the play of guard Tyi Skinner, who is averaging 18.3 points and 5.3 assists over the last three contests. She posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 assists against the Razorbacks. Forward Sahnya Jah added 22 points in that win. This game, organized under the Atlantic Coast Conference banner, presents a contrast in trajectories. Syracuse has relied on a stifling defense, holding opponents to an average of 53.6 points during its win streak. SMU, meanwhile, has found its offensive rhythm lately, averaging over 80 points in its three recent victories. The matchup at Moody Coliseum will be a final tune-up before both teams return to extended homestands. Syracuse hosts Colgate on Dec. 10, while SMU welcomes Coppin State the same day. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST Sunday.
