SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — Two teams riding winning streaks will meet Sunday when the Pacific Tigers visit the San Diego State Aztecs in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup at Viejas Arena. Pacific (4-4) has won three straight games, most recently a 67-54 home victory over Sacramento State on Thursday. San Diego State (4-3) saw its three-game win streak snapped in its last outing, a 83-67 loss to Penn State on Nov. 24. Both teams will look to build momentum before entering their respective conference schedules next month. The Tigers are led by guard Daria Nestorov, who is coming off an 18-point, 4-assist performance in 31 minutes against Sacramento State. Over her last three games, all wins, Nestorov has averaged 11.7 points and 4.7 assists. She will be tasked with orchestrating an offense that has found its rhythm during the streak. The Aztecs will counter with guard Nat Martinez, their leading scorer. Martinez poured in a season-high 24 points against Penn State and has shown explosive scoring potential, having also posted 14 points in a season-opening rout of Cal St. San Marcos. Her backcourt battle with Nestorov will be a key matchup. Pacific’s resurgence has been marked by improved defense, holding opponents to an average of 55 points during the win streak. San Diego State, under coach Stacie Terry, has shown a potent offense at home, scoring 91 and 95 points in two of its three victories at Viejas Arena this season. This game concludes a five-game homestand for the Aztecs, who will travel to face Kansas State next Wednesday. The Tigers will continue a road swing at Nevada on Dec. 13. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. PST on Sunday, Dec. 7.
