RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) â The Richmond Spiders, riding a strong start to the season, will look to continue their momentum when they host the Fairfield Stags in a nonconference womenâs basketball game Sunday at the Robins Center. Richmond (7-2) has won five of its last six games, most recently a 69-46 rout of Loyola Chicago on Wednesday. The Spidersâ defense has been a cornerstone, holding opponents to an average of 58.2 points during that six-game stretch. Senior guard Rachel Ullstrom has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 14.9 points per game. She scored 19 points in the win over Loyola Chicago. Fairfield (4-3) arrives seeking to rebound from a narrow 72-69 road loss at Howard on Friday. The Stags have shown resilience, with their three losses coming against power conference opponents Iowa and North Carolina, plus the last-second defeat at Howard. The matchup features a compelling backcourt duel between Richmondâs Ullstrom and Fairfieldâs dynamic guard Kaety LâAmoreaux. LâAmoreaux is averaging 18.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. She is coming off a 23-point, seven-rebound performance against Howard and scored 28 points in a win over South Florida last month. Richmondâs balance will be tested. Alongside Ullstrom, forward Maggie Doogan is coming off a 20-point, five-assist game. Fairfield counters with LâAmoreaux and forward Meghan Andersen, who added 15 points in the Howard loss. The Spiders have been dominant at home, winning all four of their games at the Robins Center this season by an average margin of 22.5 points. Fairfield is 1-2 in true road games. This contest serves as a final tune-up before both teams enter extended breaks for final exams. Richmond will visit Liberty next Saturday, while Fairfield hosts Maine on Dec. 12. Tip-off is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
