NORFOLK, Va. (Interstat) â Two teams riding winning streaks will meet Sunday when the Howard Lady Bison visit the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs in a nonconference womenâs basketball matchup at the Constant Convocation Center. Howard (7-3) arrives having won two straight, most recently a 72-69 home victory over Fairfield on Friday. Old Dominion (6-3) has won two consecutive games since a three-game skid, including a 68-45 win over Delaware State on Monday. The Lady Bison are led by guard Zoe Stewart, who is coming off a season-high 23-point performance in the win over Fairfield. Stewart has scored in double figures in seven of Howardâs 10 games this season, averaging 13.1 points per contest. She will be the focal point of a Howard offense that has shown resilience in close games, with four of its seven wins coming by six points or fewer. Old Dominion counters with guard Simaru Fields, a versatile contributor who leads the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game. Fields posted a season-best 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists in an overtime win against Delaware on Nov. 12 and is coming off a nine-point, three-assist effort in Mondayâs victory. The Lady Monarchs have relied on a balanced attack, with six players averaging between 6.9 and 11.2 points. A key matchup will be in the paint, where Howardâs Nile Miller, who had eight points and seven rebounds against Fairfield, will contend with Old Dominionâs interior defense. The Lady Monarchs have held opponents to an average of 53.2 points in their six wins but surrendered 84 and 67 points in losses to Oregon and Texas Tech, respectively. Howard has faced a challenging early road schedule, playing seven of its first ten games away from home. This contest continues that trend before returning to host Saint Bonaventure on Dec. 20. Old Dominion is in the middle of a five-game homestand before traveling to face Mississippi on Dec. 21. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon. The game will be the first meeting between the programs in recent seasons.
