Manhattan Seeks First Win Against Surging NJIT NEWARK, N.J. (Interstat) — The Manhattan Lady Jaspers, still in search of their first victory, face a steep challenge on the road Sunday against the NJIT Highlanders at Fleisher Athletic Center. Manhattan (0-8) enters on an eight-game skid, most recently suffering a lopsided 84-38 home loss to Columbia on Wednesday. The Lady Jaspers have struggled offensively, failing to reach 65 points in any game this season. A bright spot in the loss was sophomore guard Colette Mulderig, who scored 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench. Mulderig will be a player to watch for Manhattan, having provided sporadic scoring punch in limited minutes throughout the early season. NJIT (7-3), meanwhile, has been one of the early surprises, boasting a strong start despite a 77-68 road loss at Monmouth on Wednesday. The Highlanders are powered by forward Ava Locklear, who is coming off a dominant 24-point, 14-rebound performance in that defeat. Locklear has been a consistent force, recording double-doubles in two of her last four games and averaging 20 points and 12 rebounds over her last two contests. The matchup pits one of the nation’s struggling offenses against a resilient NJIT squad that has defended its home court well, going 5-1 at Fleisher Athletic Center this season. The Highlanders’ only home loss was a 71-43 defeat to Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 25. For Manhattan, breaking into the win column will require containing Locklear and finding more consistent scoring beyond Brianna Davis, who also had 10 points against Columbia. The Lady Jaspers’ upcoming schedule offers little respite, with a trip to Quinnipiac looming on Dec. 19. NJIT looks to rebound quickly before hosting Dartmouth on Dec. 11. Sunday’s game tips off at 2 p.m. EST.
