Preview: Seton Hall Pirates at North Carolina State Wolfpack RALEIGH, N.C. (Interstat) — A surging Seton Hall women’s basketball team will look to continue its strong start to the season when it visits a North Carolina State squad seeking consistency in a nonconference matchup Sunday at Lenovo Center. The Pirates (5-1) enter with momentum after a decisive 70-51 victory over Butler on Thursday. Their lone loss came in a narrow 82-78 road contest against Princeton on Dec. 2. Seton Hall’s offense has been potent, averaging 80.8 points in its five wins. Seton Hall is led by guard Mariana Valenzuela, who is coming off a 25-point performance against Butler. Over her last five games, Valenzuela is averaging 17.0 points. She posted a double-double with 16 points and eight rebounds in a win at Pacific on Nov. 16. The Wolfpack (5-4) aim to rebound from a high-scoring 103-98 overtime loss at Oklahoma on Wednesday. North Carolina State’s season has been marked by close defeats, including three losses by six points or fewer. NC State’s offense runs through guard Zamareya Jones, who scored 26 points in 41 minutes against the Sooners. Jones has been a versatile contributor, recording 14 points and eight assists in a blowout win at Southern Mississippi on Nov. 28 and averaging 15.1 points over her last seven contests. The Wolfpack hold a 5-4 edge in the all-time series against Seton Hall, though the teams have not met since 2017. Sunday’s game represents a final nonconference test for both programs before their respective league schedules intensify later in December. For Seton Hall, the contest begins a challenging two-game road swing before returning home to face Columbia on Dec. 9. NC State will travel to face Miami (Fla.) on Dec. 14 in its Atlantic Coast Conference opener. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon in Raleigh.
