MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet Sunday when the Memphis women’s basketball team visits Middle Tennessee at Murphy Athletics Center. The Tigers (4-5) and Blue Raiders (3-5) enter the nonconference matchup on similar trajectories, each looking to halt a two-game skid. Memphis fell 84-73 at Saint John’s on Nov. 29, while Middle Tennessee dropped a 71-65 home decision to Belmont on Dec. 3. Memphis will lean on guard Daejah Richmond, who has been a consistent offensive force. She is averaging 15.0 points over her last four games, including a 30-minute, 12-point performance in the loss to Saint John’s. Her season high is 22 points in an overtime loss to Mississippi on Nov. 18. The Blue Raiders counter with guard Blair Baugus, a workhorse who has logged 40 minutes in two of her last three contests. She scored 21 points in the loss to Belmont and poured in 22 points with seven rebounds in a narrow defeat at Rice on Nov. 15. Both teams have struggled for consistency early. Memphis’s wins have come by an average margin of 7.5 points, while its losses have been by an average of 16.2 points. Middle Tennessee has faced a tough schedule, including blowout losses to power-conference foes Tennessee and Mississippi State, but secured a road win at Providence on Nov. 24. This game represents a final tune-up before each team’s schedule intensifies. Memphis begins American Athletic Conference play at Charlotte on Dec. 31. Middle Tennessee opens Conference USA action at Kennesaw State on Jan. 2. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon in Murfreesboro.
