Preview: Lehigh Visits Mount St. Mary’s in Non-Conference Finale EMMITSBURG, Md. (Interstat) — The Lehigh Mountain Hawks visit the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers on Sunday in the final non-conference game for both women’s basketball teams. The matchup at Knott Arena pits two programs seeking momentum before league play begins. Lehigh (4-5) enters with a two-game winning streak after a 66-52 victory over Cornell on Wednesday. Mount St. Mary’s (2-5) looks to rebound from a 92-44 road loss to Maryland that same night. Lehigh’s offense runs through junior guard Leia Edwards, who is coming off a 21-point, five-assist performance against Cornell. Over her last three games, Edwards is averaging 15.7 points and 4.3 assists. She recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Brown on Nov. 30. “Leia’s versatility has been key for us,” Lehigh coach Addie Micir said. “When she’s aggressive and finding her teammates, our entire offense flows better.” The Mountaineers counter with guard Giana Hoddinott, their leading scorer at 9.3 points per game. Hoddinott scored 10 points against Maryland and had 13 in a win over Loyola Maryland on Nov. 20. Forward Gabrielle Kennerly, who led the Mount with 13 points against the Terrapins, provides an interior presence. Mount St. Mary’s has struggled offensively, averaging 53.4 points and shooting 36% from the field. Defense has kept them competitive, holding four opponents under 70 points. “We have to be more consistent with our shot selection and value each possession,” Mount St. Mary’s coach Maria Marchesano said. “Our defense can create opportunities if we execute.” Lehigh’s recent surge coincides with improved ball security, committing just 10 turnovers against Cornell. Forward Lily Fandre, who scored 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting Wednesday, gives Edwards a reliable secondary option. The Mountain Hawks have won the last two meetings, including a 65-56 victory last season in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Following this game, Lehigh begins Patriot League play at Army on Dec. 31. Mount St. Mary’s hosts Mercyhurst on Dec. 15 before starting Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action in January. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
