CHICAGO (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in nonconference play will meet Sunday when the Loyola Chicago Ramblers host the Western Michigan Broncos in a women’s basketball matchup at Joseph Gentile Center. Both programs enter with struggling records. The Ramblers are 2-6, while the Broncos sit at 1-5. Each team is coming off a double-digit road loss this past Wednesday. Loyola Chicago fell 69-46 at Richmond, and Western Michigan lost 71-53 at Indiana. The game features a pair of guards capable of carrying the offensive load. For Western Michigan, sophomore D’Myjah Bolds has been a consistent scorer, reaching double figures in four of her last five games. She led the Broncos with 12 points at Indiana and posted a season-high 15 points in an overtime loss to Roosevelt on Nov. 25. Loyola Chicago will counter with senior Alex-Anne Bessette, who has been the Ramblers’ most potent scorer recently. She tallied 15 points against Richmond and had a 22-point performance at Illinois-Chicago on Nov. 22. Her 16-point effort keyed Loyola’s 61-49 win at DePaul on Nov. 26, the team’s lone victory in its last six outings. Western Michigan’s season has been defined by offensive challenges, averaging just 57.8 points per game. Their sole win was a narrow 65-64 road victory at Milwaukee on Nov. 13. The Broncos have struggled with turnovers, a concern against a Loyola defense that forced 18 in its win over DePaul. The Ramblers have also faced scoring droughts, failing to reach 50 points in three of their losses. Rebounding will be a critical area; Western Michigan was outrebounded 50-29 in its loss to Michigan State, while Loyola yielded 18 offensive boards in its loss to Illinois State. This contest represents one of the final chances for both squads to build confidence before conference play begins in January. For Western Michigan, it is the last of a difficult stretch of road games. For Loyola Chicago, it is a home opportunity to halt a two-game skid before hosting Oakland next Monday. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon in Chicago.
