AMES, Iowa (Interstat) — The unbeaten and No. 2-ranked Iowa State Cyclones host the struggling Northern Illinois Huskies in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday at Hilton Coliseum. Iowa State (9-0) has dominated its early schedule, winning by an average margin of 44.2 points. The Cyclones are coming off a 106-95 road victory at Indiana on Nov. 30, a game in which center Audi Crooks scored a career-high 47 points. Crooks, a preseason All-American, is averaging 28.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while shooting over 70% from the field. She has scored at least 18 points in every contest this season. Northern Illinois (2-6) seeks a program-defining upset amid a challenging stretch. The Huskies have lost two straight, including a 61-69 defeat at Indiana State on Wednesday. Guard Sa’Mahn Johnson led Northern Illinois in that loss with 19 points and has been a bright spot, averaging 10.7 points per game. The Huskies have struggled offensively, failing to reach 70 points in any game this season. The matchup pits one of the nation’s most efficient offenses against a Northern Illinois team allowing 66.6 points per game. Iowa State’s high-powered attack, which also features standouts Jada Williams (12.9 ppg, 8.4 apg) and Addy Brown (13.3 ppg, 9.4 rpg), will test the Huskies’ defense. This is the first meeting between the programs. For Northern Illinois, it begins a difficult three-game road swing. Iowa State continues its in-state rivalry week, hosting Iowa on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CST Sunday.
