FAIRFAX, Va. (Interstat) — The Liberty Lady Flames, riding a three-game winning streak, will face the George Mason Patriots in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup Sunday at EagleBank Arena. Liberty (5-2) enters following a 68-56 home victory over Manhattan on Nov. 30, where Avery Mills scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds. The junior guard has been a consistent force, averaging 16 points over her last five games. She is complemented by a strong frontcourt presence in Emmy Stout and Ify Nwaobi, who combined for 27 rebounds in the win over Manhattan. George Mason (6-4) looks to build momentum after a 73-55 win against Fordham on Dec. 3. The Patriots are led by dynamic guard Zahirah Walton, who is coming off a historic 42-point performance in a narrow 88-83 loss at Murray State on Nov. 28. Walton has scored in double figures in every game this season, averaging 19.8 points. The game presents a contrast in styles. Liberty has relied on defensive stability, holding opponents to an average of 54.7 points during its current streak. George Mason has shown high-scoring potential, surpassing 80 points twice, but has also conceded an average of 73.5 points in its four losses. For Liberty, a road victory would mark its best start in recent seasons and provide a key resume win before entering Conference USA play in January. For George Mason, protecting its home court is crucial ahead of a challenging Atlantic 10 schedule that begins next month. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon. Liberty’s next game is at home against Richmond on Dec. 13. George Mason hosts Princeton on Dec. 20.
