PHOENIX (Interstat) — The Saint Mary’s Gaels, riding a modest wave of momentum, will visit the struggling Grand Canyon Antelopes in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday at GCU Arena. Saint Mary’s (6-4) enters off a 58-53 road win at San Jose State on Thursday. The Gaels have shown resilience, winning three of their last four, but have struggled away from Moraga, California, with all four losses coming on the road. Grand Canyon (1-7) seeks to halt a six-game skid, its latest a narrow 62-58 defeat at Gonzaga on Thursday. The Antelopes have been competitive in several losses, falling by four points or fewer to Gonzaga and Texas-San Antonio. A key matchup will feature standout guards on both sides. Saint Mary’s is led by Emily Foy, who scored 16 points in 28 minutes against San Jose State. Over her last eight games, Foy is averaging 8.4 points. Grand Canyon’s offense runs through Chloe Mann, who is coming off a career-high 26-point performance at Gonzaga. Mann has scored in double figures in five of her last six contests, averaging 14.5 points per game over that stretch. The Gaels have relied on defense, holding opponents under 60 points in five of their six victories. The Antelopes, conversely, have allowed 70 or more points in five of their eight games. This is the first meeting between the programs. Saint Mary’s continues a five-game road swing, while Grand Canyon plays the second of a three-game homestand. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. MST Sunday. Saint Mary’s returns home to face Fresno State on Dec. 10. Grand Canyon hosts Santa Clara on Dec. 14.
