GREENVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to steady their nonconference schedules will meet Sunday when the Elon Phoenix visit the East Carolina Pirates in a women’s basketball matchup at Williams Arena. Elon (3-4) enters off a 65-57 road win at North Dakota on Nov. 28, which snapped a three-game skid. The Phoenix have struggled offensively in losses, averaging just 50 points in their four defeats compared to 74.3 in their three victories. Guard Maraja Pass has been a key facilitator, averaging 4.8 assists over her last five games, though her scoring has fluctuated. In the win over North Dakota, Tamia Watkins provided a boost off the bench with 11 points and seven rebounds. East Carolina (4-5) aims to rebound from a 83-66 home loss to James Madison on Wednesday. The Pirates have shown offensive firepower, scoring 72 or more points in all four of their wins, but have allowed 73 or more in each of their five losses. Guard Kennedy Fauntleroy has been a consistent scoring threat, averaging 13.6 points per game. She is coming off a 17-point, four-assist performance against James Madison, one of three 17-point outings for her this season. The matchup pits Elon’s search for road consistency — they are 1-3 away from home — against an East Carolina team seeking to defend its home court after two losses in its last three games in Greenville. The Pirates hold a 4-5 record at Williams Arena this season. Historically, East Carolina has dominated the series, winning 16 of the 18 all-time meetings. Their most recent matchup was a 70-49 Pirates victory on Dec. 18, 2022. Following this game, Elon will host Longwood on Dec. 14. East Carolina continues a three-game homestand, hosting UNC Asheville also on Dec. 14. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon.
