DETROIT (Interstat) — Two Horizon League women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Sunday when the IU Indy Jaguars visit the Detroit Mercy Titans at Calihan Hall. Both squads enter with sub-.500 records in non-conference play. The visiting Jaguars (3-5) are looking to rebound from a 74-68 home loss to Fort Wayne on Wednesday. The Titans (2-5) snapped a five-game skid with a 76-68 victory over Cleveland State on Thursday. A key matchup will feature IU Indy guard Hailey Smith against Detroit’s Myonna Hooper. Smith is coming off a 15-point, 38-minute effort against Fort Wayne and has been a consistent contributor, including a 19-point, 7-rebound performance in the season opener. Hooper helped fuel Detroit’s recent win with 12 points and three assists in 28 minutes. IU Indy’s offense has shown flashes, scoring 94 points in a late-November rout of Anderson, but has struggled with consistency, failing to reach 70 points in three of its five losses. Detroit’s season has been defined by a tough schedule, including a lopsided loss to Michigan, but its defense held strong in the win over Cleveland State. The Jaguars’ Olivia Smith (12 points vs. Fort Wayne) and Kamara Mills (14 points vs. Fort Wayne) provide secondary scoring. For Detroit, Addisen Mastriano’s 18-point outburst against Cleveland State and Makayla Jackson’s all-around play will be crucial alongside Hooper. This contest opens a critical stretch for both programs before league play intensifies in January. Following this game, IU Indy hosts Green Bay on Dec. 10. Detroit travels to Robert Morris on Dec. 16. Sunday’s tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST at Calihan Hall in Detroit.
