BOULDER, Colo. (Interstat) — The Wyoming Cowgirls, riding a two-game win streak, will face a stern road test against the Colorado Buffaloes at the Coors Events Center on Sunday. Wyoming (3-4) enters following a 66-59 home victory over South Dakota last Saturday, while Colorado (6-3) is coming off a 66-47 win against the College of Charleston on Tuesday. The Buffaloes have won four of their last five and hold a distinct advantage in record and home court. The matchup features two key guards in strong recent form. Wyoming will rely on the hot hand of Malene Pedersen, who is averaging 19.4 points over her last five games. She exploded for 25 points in 35 minutes against South Dakota and scored 26 in just 24 minutes in a rout of Chadron State on Nov. 25. For Colorado, Anaëlle Dutat has been a consistent all-around contributor. She posted 14 points and three assists in the team’s last outing and nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds in a narrow 71-70 loss to Montana State on Nov. 30. Her season includes a 13-point, 11-rebound performance in a road loss at Louisville. Wyoming’s season has been marked by offensive struggles away from Laramie, with three road losses by an average margin of 25 points. Their defense, however, has been stout in their wins, holding opponents to an average of 49.3 points in their three victories. Colorado has established itself as a strong defensive unit at home, allowing just 53.8 points per game in their four wins in Boulder this season. Their losses have come against tougher competition, including Louisville, Texas A&M and the one-point setback to Montana State. This contest is the final tune-up for both teams before extended breaks for finals. Wyoming travels to Minnesota next Sunday, Dec. 14. Colorado will host Miami (Ohio) next Saturday, Dec. 13, before embarking on a Pac-12 conference slate. Sunday’s game tips off at 1 p.m. MST in Boulder.
