PEORIA, Ill. (Interstat) — The Bradley Braves will look to get back to .500 when they host the struggling Chicago State Cougars in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday at Carver Arena. Bradley (4-4) enters the contest seeking momentum after a 92-53 road loss to Nebraska on Wednesday. The Braves have shown offensive firepower this season, led by standout guard Kaylen Nelson. Nelson is averaging 21.4 points per game and is coming off a 28-minute, 13-point performance against the Cornhuskers. She has scored 21 or more points in five of Bradley’s eight games, including a 28-point outing in a win over DePaul. Chicago State (1-7) has lost seven straight since a season-opening victory over Winthrop. The Cougars are coming off a 67-53 loss at Pittsburgh on Nov. 29, part of a challenging early-season schedule that has included road games against Notre Dame, Illinois State and New Mexico. Guard Tally Williams has been a bright spot for the Cougars, providing versatility. In the loss to Pittsburgh, she logged 23 minutes with nine points, five rebounds, six assists and two blocks. The Braves have been strong at home, posting a 3-1 record at Carver Arena with wins over Judson, DePaul and Bellarmine. Their lone home loss was to Abilene Christian, though they avenged that with a neutral-site victory over the Wildcats two days later. For Chicago State, reversing a trend of defensive struggles will be critical. The Cougars have allowed an average of 80.1 points per game during their seven-game skid. Containing Nelson will be their primary defensive challenge. This matchup marks the final tune-up for Bradley before hosting South Dakota on Dec. 10. Chicago State continues a lengthy road trip, with games at Fresno State, Arizona and Utah Tech awaiting next week. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon.
