Preview: UTSA Roadrunners at Baylor Lady Bears WACO, Texas (Interstat) — The surging Baylor Lady Bears look to continue their dominant non-conference play when they host the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners at the Ferrell Center on Sunday. Baylor (8-1), whose only loss came in a tight 57-52 game against then-Iowa, has won four straight by an average margin of 44.5 points. The Lady Bears are coming off a 112-47 rout of Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday, where they showcased a potent and balanced offense. The Lady Bears are led by standout guard Taliah Scott, who is averaging 23.0 points and 5.2 assists per game. She recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 assists in just 25 minutes in the last outing. Forward Bella Fontleroy (20 points) and guard Jana Van Gytenbeek (12 assists) also provided significant contributions in the blowout win. “We’re sharing the ball and playing with great energy,” Baylor coach Nicki Collen said. “When we defend and run, we can be very effective.” UTSA (3-4) enters on a two-game skid, including a 66-39 home loss to UNLV on Wednesday. The Roadrunners have struggled offensively against higher-caliber opponents, averaging just 44.3 points in their four losses. Guard Ereauna Hardaway is a key facilitator for UTSA, averaging 6.3 points and 3.4 assists. She will be tasked with handling Baylor’s defensive pressure. The Roadrunners’ three wins have come against Texas State, Incarnate Word and Grand Canyon, but they fell by 27 points to Auburn in their most comparable power-conference test. “Baylor is elite in transition and on the glass,” UTSA coach Karen Aston said. “We have to value every possession, limit our turnovers and try to control the tempo.” Historically, Baylor has dominated this in-state matchup. The Lady Bears’ stifling defense, which allows just 52.7 points per game, will be a major challenge for a UTSA team shooting under 38% from the field this season. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. CST tip-off. Baylor hosts Alabama State on Tuesday, while UTSA returns home to face Prairie View A&M on Dec. 13.
