WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet Sunday when William & Mary visits American in a nonconference women’s basketball game at Bender Arena. The Tribe (3-4) enter with some confidence after a 67-64 road win at Wake Forest on Wednesday. The Eagles (1-6) look to halt a six-game skid, their most recent a 55-48 loss at Drexel that same night. William & Mary has been led by forward Natalie Fox, who is coming off a strong performance with 16 points and seven rebounds in the win over the Demon Deacons. Over her last seven games, Fox is averaging 10.3 points and 7.0 rebounds, providing a consistent interior presence. American will counter with guard Charlotte Tuhy, who has been a bright spot during the difficult start. Tuhy is averaging 10.1 points per game and recorded double-doubles in consecutive contests against Yale and La Salle last month, pulling down 14 rebounds in each. The matchup features contrasting recent trajectories. Since an 0-3 start, William & Mary has gone 3-1, with its only loss in that stretch a narrow three-point defeat to Old Dominion. American’s lone victory came in its season opener against Delaware State, and the Eagles have struggled offensively, failing to reach 55 points in four of their six losses. Sunday’s game represents a final nonconference tune-up before both teams turn their focus to league play in the new year. William & Mary will begin Coastal Athletic Association action in January, while American opens Patriot League competition. Tip-off is scheduled for Sunday afternoon. William & Mary visits Coppin State on Dec. 13. American travels to face George Washington on Dec. 14.
