DENTON, Texas (Interstat) — The North Texas Mean Green look to rebound from a tough loss when they host the Texas Southern Lady Tigers in a nonconference women’s basketball game Saturday at North Texas Coliseum. North Texas (5-3) is coming off a 73-55 home loss to Oklahoma State on Wednesday, a game in which the team struggled offensively. The Mean Green will rely on guard Andi Schissler, who scored 12 points in that defeat. Schissler has been a consistent scorer, reaching double figures in four of her last five contests, including a 17-point performance in a rout of Nelson on Nov. 13. Texas Southern (3-3) also seeks to bounce back after a 78-54 road loss at Colorado State last Friday. The Lady Tigers have shown a high-powered offense in wins, scoring over 95 points three times, but have been stifled by major conference opponents in losses to Colorado State, Troy and Texas. A key matchup will feature Texas Southern guard Daeja Holmes, who leads her team’s perimeter attack. Holmes is averaging 12.6 points per game and is coming off an 11-point effort at Colorado State. She recorded 15 points in games against Texas and Texas A&M International earlier this season. North Texas has found success at home this season, boasting a 4-1 record in Denton, with the only blemish being the recent defeat to Oklahoma State. Texas Southern is 2-1 on the road, with victories at Wiley and a lopsided loss at Texas. This contest begins a busy stretch for both teams. North Texas will travel to Illinois on Dec. 14, while Texas Southern continues a road swing at West Virginia on Dec. 8. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon at North Texas Coliseum.
