Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the Portland State Vikings face the Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup at Municipal Auditorium. Both squads enter with identical 2-6 records, each having dropped their most recent contest on Wednesday. Portland State fell 75-51 to South Dakota at home, while UMKC lost 72-59 at Northern Colorado. The game features a marquee individual matchup between two high-volume scorers. Portland State will lean on guard Kyleigh Brown, who has been a consistent bright spot despite the team’s struggles. Brown is coming off a 28-point performance against South Dakota and has scored 15 or more points in seven of eight games this season, including a 26-point outing in a loss at Utah Tech on Nov. 22. The Kangaroos counter with guard Jamyah Winter, their leading scorer in multiple games. Winter posted 13 points against Northern Colorado and had a season-high 21 points in a narrow loss at Lindenwood on Nov. 17. Her production against Division I competition, however, has been variable, making her performance a key variable for the home team. Portland State’s two victories came against San Jose State (75-64) on Nov. 28 and Division III Willamette (89-52) on Nov. 11. Similarly, UMKC’s wins are against Hesston College (121-43) and William Jewell (90-35), both non-Division I opponents. Saturday’s game represents a critical opportunity for either program to secure a confidence-building win against a fellow DI foe before continuing their respective schedules. For Portland State, this contest begins a two-game trip before returning home. UMKC will look to defend its home court before a daunting road game at Arkansas next week. Tip-off is set for Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, in Kansas City.
