STILLWATER, Okla. (Interstat) — A surging Oklahoma State women’s basketball team looks to continue its dominant nonconference play when it hosts struggling Mississippi Valley State on Saturday at Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Cowgirls (9-1) have won four straight since their lone loss at Saint John’s on Nov. 19, including a 73-55 road victory at North Texas on Wednesday. Oklahoma State has averaged 91.4 points per game in its nine wins, winning by an average margin of 41.2 points. Guard Haleigh Timmer has been a catalyst, averaging 18.3 points over the last four games. She scored 23 points in 34 minutes against North Texas. Jadyn Wooten added 15 points and Achol Akot had 10 points and two blocks in the win. Mississippi Valley State (1-6) enters on a five-game losing streak, most recently a 101-53 defeat at Tulsa on Thursday. The Devilettes have faced a brutal early schedule, with all six losses coming on the road against power conference or strong mid-major opponents, often by lopsided margins. Guard Kylah McCullers is a key player for MVSU, averaging 10.0 points per game. She led the team with 13 points in the loss to Tulsa. Sydnei Marshall and Jaeda Murphy each added nine points in that contest. Oklahoma State’s defense, allowing just 55.8 points per game during its win streak, will challenge a Devilettes offense that has been held under 55 points four times this season. The Cowgirls also hold a significant rebounding advantage, averaging 46.2 boards per game. This is the first meeting between the programs. Following this game, Oklahoma State prepares for a road matchup with rival Oklahoma on Dec. 13 in Oklahoma City. Mississippi Valley State continues its extended road swing at Mercer on Dec. 14. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon.
