(Interstat) — The Cleveland State Vikings look to rebound from their first Horizon League loss when they visit the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game Saturday. Cleveland State (7-2, 0-1 Horizon) enters the matchup at the Athletics Center O’rena following a 76-68 road defeat at Detroit on Thursday. The Vikings had won five straight prior to that loss. Oakland (3-5, 0-1) is also seeking its first conference win after falling 61-57 at Wright State on Wednesday. The Vikings are led by guard Colbi Maples, who is averaging 17.6 points per game. She scored a season-high 25 points in 40 minutes against Detroit. Over her last five games, Maples is averaging 19.6 points. The Golden Grizzlies counter with forward Lianna Baxter, who posted 18 points against Wright State. Baxter is averaging 10.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season. Cleveland State’s strong start includes notable non-conference wins over Radford and Saint Bonaventure. Oakland’s victories have come against Saint Thomas (Minn.), Miami (Ohio) and non-Division I Cleary. Defense has been a key for the Vikings, who have held opponents to 59.2 points per game. Oakland, conversely, has struggled at times, allowing 74.6 points per contest, including a 102-41 loss at Michigan State on Nov. 23. This marks the Horizon League opener for both teams at home for Oakland and on the road for Cleveland State. The Vikings’ next game is Dec. 13 against Niagara. Oakland travels to Loyola Chicago on Dec. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST Saturday.
