SPOKANE, Wash. (Interstat) — A surging UC Davis women’s basketball team will look to extend its winning streak against a Gonzaga squad seeking consistency when the teams meet Saturday at McCarthey Athletic Center. The Aggies (7-2) have won five straight games, including a 68-63 home victory over Hawaii on Thursday. They are led by standout forward Megan Norris, who scored 26 points in that win and is averaging 17.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists over her last seven contests. Her versatility on both ends of the floor has been central to UC Davis’s strong start. The Bulldogs (5-4), coming off a 62-58 win over Grand Canyon, have alternated wins and losses over their past six games. They will rely on the high-scoring output of guard Lauren Whittaker, who poured in 24 points against Grand Canyon and is averaging 22.1 points over her last five outings. Her offensive firepower will be key against a disciplined UC Davis defense. This nonconference matchup presents a contrast in momentum. UC Davis’s current streak includes three road wins, showcasing their resilience away from home. Gonzaga, however, has proven formidable on its own court, boasting a 4-1 record in Spokane this season with the lone loss a narrow 76-72 defeat to Indiana. The game will be a final tune-up before both teams dive deeper into their schedules. UC Davis begins Big West Conference play in January, while Gonzaga will soon embark on West Coast Conference action. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon.
