BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging UC Santa Barbara women’s basketball team will look to extend its winning streak when it visits struggling Cal State Bakersfield in a Big West Conference matchup on Saturday. The Gauchos (6-1) have won five straight games since a season-opening loss to UCLA, most recently edging Chattanooga 66-64 on Nov. 29. Olivia Bradley scored 17 points in that win, while Zoe Borter added 15 and Madison Naro had 14. Cal State Bakersfield (2-5) has lost three of its last four, including a 78-63 defeat at Arizona on Nov. 29. The Roadrunners’ victories this season came at Wichita State and Omaha. The game at the Icardo Center pits one of the conference’s hottest offenses against its most challenged. UCSB is averaging 72.9 points per game and has scored at least 74 points in four of its wins. CSUB has been held under 65 points in five of its seven games and is allowing an average of 75.1 points against Division I opponents. This is the conference opener for both teams. Following this game, UC Santa Barbara travels to Utah Tech on Dec. 13. Cal State Bakersfield will play at Seattle on the same date.
