LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — A surging UC Irvine women’s basketball team looks to extend its winning streak when it visits Cal State Northridge in a Big West Conference matchup Saturday at the Matadome. The Anteaters (7-2) enter on a five-game tear, most recently dominating UC Riverside 77-40 on Thursday. Their early-season losses came on the road against power conference Arizona and Idaho State. The Matadors (4-3) snapped a three-game skid with a narrow 59-57 road win at Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday. UC Irvine’s offense runs through dynamic guard Jada Wynn, who is coming off a 15-point, 4-assist performance against UC Riverside. Over her last seven games, Wynn is averaging 15.3 points and 4.6 assists, including a 21-point, 11-rebound, 6-assist effort in a win over Northern Arizona. Her backcourt partnership with Hunter Hernandez, who scored 16 points Thursday, provides a potent scoring duo. Cal State Northridge will counter with forward Saray White, who led the team with 13 points in the win at Bakersfield. White has shown efficiency in limited minutes, scoring in double figures in three of her last four appearances, including an 11-point, 4-block performance in a rout of LIFE Pacific. The Anteaters have showcased a stifling defense during their streak, holding four of their last five opponents to 55 points or fewer. The Matadors, meanwhile, have struggled defensively against higher-caliber competition, allowing an average of 86 points in losses to Idaho, California Baptist and San Diego State. This contest opens the conference schedule for both teams. UC Irvine’s current streak marks its best start in recent seasons, while Cal State Northridge seeks to build momentum at home after its road victory. The Anteaters won both meetings last season. Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles.
