Undefeated Sun Devils Host Surging Dons in Nonconference Test TEMPE, Ariz. (Interstat) — The undefeated and No. 21-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils put their perfect record on the line Saturday when they host the surging San Francisco Dons in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup at Wells Fargo Arena. Arizona State (8-0) has relied on a balanced attack and stout defense, winning its games by an average margin of 18.6 points. The Sun Devils are coming off an 85-56 rout of Southeast Missouri State on Nov. 29, where junior guard Heloisa Carrera led the way with 21 points and two blocks. Carrera has been a consistent scorer, reaching double figures in four of the last five games. They will face a San Francisco team (6-2) riding high after three consecutive victories, including a 68-45 road win at Nevada on Friday. The Dons’ offense runs through dynamic guard Candy Edokpaigbe, who is averaging 21.1 points over her last six contests. She scored 16 points in 29 minutes against Nevada and posted a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double against UC San Diego on Nov. 16. San Francisco’s two losses came against power-conference foes Seton Hall and Boise State, but they have since found a rhythm, averaging 83 points per game during their three-game win streak. Guard Aina Cargol, who had nine points and four assists against Nevada, provides backcourt support. Arizona State’s defense, which has held opponents to 53.9 points per game, will face its toughest test in weeks. The Sun Devils have not played since Nov. 29, while the Dons will be on the second leg of a road trip. The matchup in the paint will be critical. Arizona State’s depth, featuring contributors like Last-Tear Poa (12 points, 10 assists vs. SEMO) and Gabby Elliott, will challenge a San Francisco frontcourt that leans heavily on Edokpaigbe’s all-around production. This game serves as a final tune-up before both teams enter demanding stretches. Arizona State travels to Penn State, Oregon State and Gonzaga next week. San Francisco begins a run of games against Colorado State, Sacramento State and Oregon State. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. MST Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena.
