Undefeated Massachusetts Women Set for Road Test at Army WEST POINT, N.Y. (Interstat) — The undefeated Massachusetts women’s basketball team puts its perfect record on the line Saturday against a formidable Army squad at Christl Arena. The Minutewomen (7-0) are off to their best start in years, coming off a 71-52 road win at Northeastern on Wednesday. They have won each game this season by an average of 18.3 points, showcasing a balanced attack and stifling defense. Army (6-2), however, presents a significant challenge on its home court. The Black Knights have won four of their last five, including a 65-43 victory at Saint Peter’s on Wednesday. Their two losses came against power-conference opponent Oregon and a narrow road defeat at Eastern Kentucky. The matchup features two of the region’s top performers. Massachusetts is led by guard Megan Olbrys, who is averaging 16.3 points per game. She is coming off an 18-point performance against Northeastern and recorded a 24-point, 12-rebound double-double against Boston College on Nov. 22. She will be matched by Army’s dominant forward, Kya Smith. Smith averages a double-double with 16.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. She posted 17 points and 15 rebounds in her last outing and has recorded five double-doubles in eight games this season. The game hinges on Massachusetts’ high-powered offense, averaging 71.3 points, against Army’s stout defense, which allows just 57.6 points per game and held its last three opponents under 45 points each. This is the final non-conference road test for Massachusetts before a holiday tournament in Florida. Army looks to secure a statement win before opening Patriot League play next month. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST on Saturday, Dec. 6.
