STAR CITY, W.Va. (Interstat) — The struggling Mercyhurst women’s basketball team seeks its first win Friday when it visits West Virginia at WVU Coliseum. The Lakers (0-7) are coming off a narrow 73-71 home loss to Robert Morris on Wednesday. Jenna Van Schaik scored 28 points in the defeat, while Cici Hernandez added 19. Mercyhurst’s season has been defined by offensive struggles, including losses of 112-62 at Iowa State and 125-39 at Michigan State. West Virginia (6-2) looks to rebound after an 81-59 home loss to Villanova on Monday. Gia Cooke led the Mountaineers with 20 points in that contest. Prior to the setback, West Virginia had won five straight, including a 57-49 victory over then-Duke. The Mountaineers have dominated at home this season, winning by an average of 32 points in their four victories in Morgantown. Mercyhurst has lost all four of its road games by an average of 41 points. This is the first meeting between the programs. Following this game, West Virginia hosts Texas Southern on Monday. Mercyhurst’s next game is at home against Saint Bonaventure on Dec. 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
