MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — A surging Youngstown State women’s basketball team visits a struggling Milwaukee squad to open Horizon League play on Friday night at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. The Penguins (5-2) ride high after a 90-63 road rout of Akron last Sunday. Sophia Gregory scored 24 points in that victory, while Erica King added 14 points and five assists. Youngstown State has won four of its last five, with the lone loss a 69-65 setback to Toledo. The Panthers (2-7) have dropped five straight, most recently an 81-72 home loss to UC Davis on Saturday. Jorey Buwalda led Milwaukee with 19 points in that contest. The Panthers have allowed an average of 75.4 points during their losing skid. The matchup pits one of the conference’s top early-season offenses against its most porous defense. Youngstown State averages 74.3 points per game, while Milwaukee allows 71.7 points per contest. Youngstown State visits Green Bay on Sunday. Milwaukee’s next game is at Fort Wayne on Dec. 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Friday.
