CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The Providence Friars visit the Xavier Musketeers on Thursday in a Big East women’s basketball matchup at Cintas Center. Providence (6-2) enters with momentum, coming off a 62-53 win over Bryant on Sunday. Sabou Gueye led the way with 18 points, while Teneisia Brown grabbed 14 rebounds. The Friars have won five of their last six. Xavier (4-3) looks to rebound from a lopsided 104-39 home loss to Connecticut. Vivien Nejašmić scored 12 points in that defeat. Prior to that, the Musketeers had won two straight, including a 74-53 victory over Ohio. The Friars have been led by a balanced effort, with Gueye averaging a team-high 14.1 points per game and Brown pulling down 9.4 rebounds. Xavier’s top scorer is MacKenzie Givens at 10.7 points per contest. This game opens the conference schedule for both teams. Providence’s next game is at Saint John’s on Dec. 7. Xavier will travel to face crosstown rival Cincinnati on the same day. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Thursday in Cincinnati.
