LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — Two ranked women’s basketball powers clash Thursday when South Carolina visits Louisville at the KFC Yum! Center. The Gamecocks (7-1) look to rebound from their first loss of the season, a 66-64 home defeat to then-Texas on Nov. 27. Ta’Niya Latson (16 points), Tessa Johnson (13 points) and Madina Okot (12 points) led South Carolina in that narrow loss. Prior to that, coach Dawn Staley’s team had dominated its schedule, winning its other seven games by an average of 44.3 points, including a road win at Duke. The Cardinals (7-2), under coach Jeff Walz, have won three straight since a 72-62 home loss to Kentucky on Nov. 22. Louisville is coming off a 100-37 rout of Bellarmine on Sunday where Imari Berry (14 points, 5 rebounds) and Reyna Scott (13 points, 4 assists) paced a balanced attack. Louisville’s other loss came against then-Connecticut in its season opener. The matchup features stout defenses. South Carolina allows just 54.1 points per game, while Louisville surrenders 56.7. The Gamecocks won the only prior meeting, 74-64, in 1982. Following this top-15 showdown, South Carolina hosts North Carolina Central on Sunday. Louisville will host New Hampshire the same day.
