CEDAR CITY, Utah (Interstat) — A struggling New Mexico State women’s basketball team faces a steep challenge on the road Thursday against a hot-starting Southern Utah squad. The Aggies (1-5) visit the Thunderbirds (6-1) at Centrum Arena in a nonconference matchup. New Mexico State has lost five straight, including a 64-49 home defeat to Fresno State last Friday. Loes Rozing (12 points) and Lucia Yenes (13 points, 6 rebounds) were the top performers in that loss. Southern Utah, meanwhile, is riding high after a 111-41 rout of Nelson on Saturday. Ava Uhrich scored 16 points and Morgan Trigueiro added 20 in the victory. The Thunderbirds’ only loss this season was a narrow 76-72 road defeat at Idaho on Nov. 15. The Aggies’ offense has sputtered, failing to reach 50 points in four of their five losses. Southern Utah’s defense will look to extend that trend, while its high-scoring attack, averaging over 84 points per game, tests New Mexico State’s resilience. Tipoff is scheduled for Thursday evening.
