NEW YORK (Interstat) — A surging Saint John’s women’s basketball team hosts a Creighton squad seeking consistency as Big East Conference play begins Thursday at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm (7-1) have won seven straight, including an 84-73 home victory over Memphis last Saturday. Saint John’s features a balanced attack led by Brooke Moore (20 points), Beautiful Waheed (17 points) and Sa’Mya Wyatt (22 points) from that win. Creighton (2-4) snapped a three-game skid with an 86-62 road win at Northern Arizona last Friday. Neleigh Gessert scored a career-high 25 points in that victory, with Allison Heathcock adding 15 points and Grace Boffeli posting 11 rebounds. The Bluejays’ early schedule has been challenging, with three of their four losses coming on the road. Saint John’s, meanwhile, has built its record with a strong home stand, its only loss a narrow road defeat at Harvard to open the season. This contest marks the conference opener for both programs. Following this game, Saint John’s hosts Providence on Sunday, while Creighton returns home to face Tulsa. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST Thursday in Queens.
